Description:
Amy hiked the 2651 mile Pacific Crest Trail in 2001 for her honeymoon with husband Brent. The hiked covered 5 months as they trekked through California, Oregon & Washington from the Mojave Desert to the lush Sierra and Cascade Mountains.
Biography:
When Amy was 15 she spent a month backpacking in the Maine woods and canoeing on the Penobscot River with Outward Bound. At 16 she spent the summer exploring the High Uinta Mountains in Utah and rafting on the Green River. She attended Northland College in Ashland, WI where she earned a degree in Outdoor Education and Natural History. At 18 she spent a summer in Alaska with the National Outdoor Leadership School, sea kayaking in Prince William Sound, backpacking through the Talkeetna Mountains and mountaineering in Denali N.P. She spent the following two summers heading up the Wilderness Department for an adventure based camp out of Brevard, NC.
Since graduating Amy has worked for environmental education centers from the mountains of California to the New England Coast. She spent a season in Glacier National Park, MT and a honeymoon hiking 2,651 miles from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. Amy and her husband Brent spent two years working for Backpacker Magazine as the Get Out More! Road Team before buying the Anslinger family farm and settling into the Miami Valley. Prior to becoming the Assistant Director of Outdoor Recreation at Wright State University, Amy became familiar with the state during a 10 week thru-hike of Ohio’s 1400mile Buckeye Trail.
